Children’s Butterfly Garden

Veterans Organic Garden is the recipient of a Fish and Wildlife Grant and home to a Katie’s Krop recipient. Robert “Nicholas” Glover, Katie’s Krop Grant winner and son of Robert and Teisha Glover is 10 years old and is homeschooled at Predestined Academy. He enjoys the arts and gardening. He sings, dances, and choreographs at his church, Word of God Christian Center, and is an actor at the New Bern Civic Theatre where he is currently cast in the production “Mulan Jr.” He started volunteering at the Veterans Garden a year ago and has a tomato and herb garden at his home. Nicholas feels that gardening is important because it is the healthy way to get fresh foods, and is an opportunity to get fresh air and exercise. Robert “Nicholas” Glover will be serving as ambassador/ representative for Veterans Employment Base Camp, Organic Garden Pollinator, and Children’s Garden at the Stanley White Recreation Center after winning a Katie’s Krop Grant of $500.00.  The garden received $3,300.00 to install a pollinator garden with partnership from the City of New Bern Parks and Recreation Dept. Nicolas will be working under the direction of Lovay Wallace Singleton, Executive Director of VEBCOG, and is incredibly responsible for his age. “We were looking for a bright, resourceful, energetic child as a representative and leader, and I can tell you that Robert “Nicholas” Glover is the embodiment of those characteristics. He is a unique young man who will be able to connect the Veterans children’s garden with the children of veterans and the after school program of the Stanley White Recreation Center, said Singleton. Ten children were selected to assist with the children’s pollinator and vegetable garden on March 19, 2016 and the application was listed on the website and at the Stanley White Recreation Center. VEBCOG also gave away 50 family seed packets to individuals that came by the garden on March 19, 2016 for a planting workshop.  Left over seed packets were donated to Keller Williams Red Day and will be used to help “Stroke of Faith Farms.”
