Veterans Organic Garden accepts payment by donation, credit card and SNAP.
Right now we have Peas, Kale, Green Onions, Cabbage, Lettuce and a few strawberries. Tomatoes, Peppers and Potatoes are going in.
After the hurricane we are still using organic principles and we have needed to change most of the soil at the garden. It is still necessary to grow the plants naturally without commercial petrochemical pesticides or other artificial amendments. The use of such materials as the minor elements — iron, boron, magnesium and manganese — required for growth, will not be excluded. Likewise, organic insecticides such as rotenone or pyrethrum derived from Oriental Chrysanthemum are permissible. Dormant horticultural oil with lime sulphur is regularly used by orchardists in late winter for scale. Bacilis thuringiensis causes a bacterial disease that kills off caterpillars.
Come by and see our progress!
